I’m not telling you anything new when I state that independent artists are exploding in both Christian and mainstream music. I think this is an exciting trend but there can be a challenge in sorting through all these new Christian artists, finding the ones that bring a fresh sound, a new perspective and a passion for following God’s call on their life. Chad Gentry is one of these artists.

I was first introduced to Chad back in April. I had the chance to see Chad live and meet him during GMA Week in Nashville. In fact, I was sitting with several key Inspirational programmers who were also impressed with his voice, songwriting and enthusiastic delivery.

Worship leader/artist Chad Gentry offers a fresh approach to worship through deeply scriptural lyrics and melodies that keep playing in listeners' heads long after the music stops.

Unwavering dedication to his craft, and most importantly, to his 'calling', has sustained Chad through a musical journey that has already spanned over a decade. Now, as Chad enters the next phase of his career - with a focused pursuit of worship music - he brings with him, as always, his guitar, his unique brand of pleasing vocal tones, and a drive to convert Biblical truth into lyric.

Chad has released an EP entitled Perfect God which features three new songs. This EP will eventually be developed into a full length CD in the near future. The first single from this release is the energetic song “You Chose Me.”

Chad wrote “You Chose Me” in the aftermath of one of the most difficult seasons of his life. “This song is a song intended to bring both a sense if humility and encouragement to the body of Christ,” shares Chad. “Personally, the topic of this song serves as a reminder that we simply don't choose to do the work of the Lord, but are chosen by God Himself to spread His Gospel. Although I have always known this principle to be true, I don't believe I truly understood it until this past year.”

Chad continues, “I had finally got to the point where I was ready to eBay my guitars and call it quits (he laughs). Fortunately God had a different plan, which has given me a renewed sense of confidence in the ministry that has been given to me. My prayer is that ‘You Chose Me’ will help to inspire those who are experiencing similar doubts about where they fit into the overall plan of God.”

I love the lyric of “You Chose Me” and the way it reminds us that God could have chosen anything (He once used a donkey and there's always those rocks that can cry out), but instead, He chose me.

Chad notes that his music has been influenced by worship leads/artists like Chris Tomlin, Tim Hughes, Charlie Hall and Paul Baloche. You can hear these influences in “You Chose Me” but Chad is not simply mimicking what he’s heard. As I mentioned earlier, he has created his own unique sound that highlights his strong vocals and his songwriting brings a fresh perspective on our relationship with the Lord. “You Chose Me” also has some great energy that will keep your listeners tuned in from start to finish!

Chad grew up in southern Indiana, where he became involved with Christian music at an early age, participating in church worship bands and touring regionally with Christian bands. After college, Chad became involved in leading worship. Since that time, he had served as a guest worship leader throughout the midwest and has served several church bodies as a bi-vocational worship minister.

Chad now lives in the Nashville area, where he attends and serves the Cumberland Church, a Northpoint strategic partnership.
