I always find it fascinating to discover the story behind a song. I was especially moved when I heard how “To Know Your Heart,” the debut single from Brent Anderson and Cape First Worship came to be. It was written by Brent during an incredibly inspiring, forty day fast, about a year and a half ago. He felt that his life was calling for something greater than anything he had ever done, sacrifice. He felt the need for God and to be closer to Him than ever before. About three weeks into the fast he sat down at his keyboard to worship and “To Know Your Heart” was born.

Brent Anderson serves as worship pastor at Cape First Assembly in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and is in the process of expanding one of the fastest growing churches in Southern Missouri by opening their doors to the world.

The Cape First Worship department has a desire to lead people into the presence of God. “Our hearts desire is that this CD would serve as an extension of our vision” says Brent, to “create an environment for the presence of God and to lead the congregation into a lifestyle of praise and worship.” (John 4:23-24)

“To Know Your Heart” is a wonderful and moving song of worship that I believe will usher your listeners into the presence of God no matter where they may be in the midst of their day. It flows with passion and heartfelt worship and has a great hook for radio as well.

Biography

Cape First Church has opened its doors to the world. Describing itself as the place “Where Everyone is Family,” the congregation welcomes all to share its contemporary, spirit filled message. Helping to spread the word is Brent Anderson, the worship pastor at Cape First, and a powerful young worship team. With their debut album “To Know Your Heart,” Cape First Worship incorporates original, inspiring lyrics with a brand of captivating worship that just may change the face of Christian music!

There were no plans for the members of Cape First Worship to become recording artists, but the encouragement of the church’s pastor, Gary Brothers, and a chance meeting with legendary Christian music artist and producer, Billy Smiley, set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately impact the life of Brent Anderson and every member of the 13 person worship team. After many heart-felt recording sessions and a live recording of a performance at Cape First, 12 inspirational tracks came together to form the group’s debut album. Each song was beautifully crafted from the personal experiences of the members and transformed into an inspirational message for the rest of the world.

Cape First Worship’s singular purpose is to help those they touch to establish or strengthen their relationship with God. “Our hearts desire is that this CD would serve as an extension of our vision” says Anderson, to “create an environment for the presence of God and to lead the congregation into a lifestyle of praise and worship.” John 4:23-24

Anderson, who is the main contributor on the album, wrote his first song at 12 years of age. He has been writing ever since. The album’s single, “To Know Your Heart,” an Anderson original, was written during a challenging forty day fast. The extreme sacrifice of a lengthy fast was his way of trying to become closer to God than ever before. About three weeks into the fast, during a particularly intense worship session, “To Know Your Heart” was born.

Placing worship above most anything else, Brent will encourage his “band” right in the middle of a song to put down their instruments and raise their arms in praise if they are so inspired. As Brent notes, “during the worship the presence of God becomes very, very heavy.” Brent takes little credit for the songs he has written or the melodic perfection of his worship team, and notes that “it just kind of happens.”

“We are very excited to share our music with people from across the country and help them walk closer with God. Not many worship groups are given the honor to help people worship on such a large scale,” comments Anderson.


The album, to be distributed by Universal Music Group, will be available in stores nationwide on September 16, 2008. As an added bonus, a DVD with a full-length music video for the album’s first single, “To Know Your Heart,” will be included with each album, along with live performance footage and interviews with Brent Anderson.
