"Different"
Molly Rees & Jamie Slocum
music and lyrics by:
I have had the right
To stand and fight
But it would have still been wrong
I've had the chance to prove
A hurtful truth
I had to let it go and just move on
'Cause there's a gift called grace
That's captured my life
Though the way of the world is power and pride
I want to be different, Jesus
Just like You
I want to be tender with mercy
Guiding all I do
So when others talk about me
Let it be because
I am different
Let the difference be love
Let me have the kind
Of heart that shines
The light and shows you're real
And where hope is dim
And fear sets in
Will you use me Lord to help and heal
I don't want wealth or fame
To define the life I live
Oh let me be known
For what I give
I want to be different, Jesus
Just like You
I want to be tender with mercy
Guiding all I do
So when others talk about me
Let it be because
I am different
Let the difference be love
Every day is a chance to serve You
By caring for someone else
I will make the choice to surrender
And not live for myself
I want to be different, Jesus
Just like You
I want to be tender with mercy
Guiding all I do
So when others talk about me
Let it be because
I am different
Let the difference be love

Cover Letter
“Sometimes in our lives we hear something and it wakes us up,”
shares Mollye Rees as she reflects upon her debut Inspirational single
entitled “DIFFERENT.” “We get used to a grind and we forget to pay
attention to the things that are really important, and that really
matter. We will get caught up in getting ahead and making ends meet
and suddenly we turn around and realize that everything is falling
apart around us, even though we have been working to pull it all
together. Often we do this at the cost of what we have been working so
diligently for.”
Molley continues, “This song, for me, was a wake up call. I think it
was God's way of saying, ‘Hey! Maybe you should pay attention!’ I am
hoping that it will be a wake up call for many people who have gotten
into that same rut. If we just take the time to care for the people
around us we become much happier in our lives.”
“DIFFERENT” is from Mollye Rees’ new project produced by singer and
songwriter Jamie Slocum. He is also a guest vocalist on the song. “I
was not planning on singing with Mollye,” comments Jamie. “I was happy
behind the console as her producer and trying to get my own new
project finished for Curb records. Yet as we were rehearsing the song,
our harmonies and vocals sounded so great together and it added new
character to ‘Different.’ Mollye is not only a wonderful singer but
really has her heart on pleasing the Lord and wanting to know Him more
as she walks through her life.”
“I know, in my life, I had lost sight of some of the things that were
really important,” says Mollye. “Now that I have begun to focus back
on those things, I feel much more whole. God doesn't care what our job
title is or how much money we make, He only cares that we love one
another and care for one another. Now that I realize this, I have been
able to focus on what He wants me to. This song was one of those
things.”
When Mollye first moved to Nashville several years ago, she was
following her dream to become a country music star. Though she still
wants to be a star, it’s now in the spirit of 2 Corinthians 3:18 which
says, “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory,
are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” Her desire is to be
different wherever she goes, whether on stage or off, reflecting the
light of Jesus to those around her.
“This song was definitely meant to be for me, and I just hope that it
touches other people's lives the way it has touched mine.”
Give “DIFFERENT” from Mollye Rees and Jamie Slocum a listen today. I

Biography
It’s no secret that Nashville is teeming with hopeful young artists
looking to
make their mark in the music community, but when it comes to talent,
determination and an unyielding love of music, Mollye Rees shines
bright. In a short period of time, she has managed to transcend Music
City clichés to distinguish herself as a compelling vocalist with an
unerring gift for delivering songs that illuminate the human
experience. The depth of emotion in Rees’ music is a reflection of the
intriguing journey she’s traveled on her way to a music career.
If that sounds rather adventurous, that’s Mollye. She’s a young woman
eager to embrace a challenge and unafraid to follow her dreams. Those
dreams began when she was just a schoolgirl.
“I started singing when I was 12 and continued in high school,”
recalls the
Charlotte, North Carolina native, an athlete who played volleyball and
was also on the school’s state championship softball team. “In chorus
I sang the classical stuff you wouldn’t hear on the radio. My junior
year in high school I was picked for our select group. Only 24
students out of 2400 got to be in that group. We did national
competitions and during my junior year, we actually won the nationals,
which was exciting.”
She attended Muskingum College in Ohio, famed astronaut John Glenn’s
alma mater. “I went to college to play volleyball,” she says. “I was
the assistant
coach my freshman year and we won the OAC Championship. We were third
in the NCAA, which is really exciting.”
When a back injury sidelined her volleyball playing, Rees began taking
voice
classes and giving in to her first love—music. She joined a gospel
group that performed weekly at her college.
Mollye moved to Nashville in early 2006, and began seriously pursuing
a career in country music while still using her gifts to share God's
love. She signed a recording contract with Hollow Oak Records and set
about crafting her debut album.
As her music introduces Rees to a national audience, she’s
experiencing the
thrill of a dream come true. “Not many people get the opportunity to
actually fulfill something like this,” she says of her burgeoning
career. “I just like to touch people with music. Just to be able to
make them feel the emotion in a song, there’s nothing better.”
Mollye shares, “I have wished for a lot of far-fetched things in my
life. When I was a little girl, I asked God every night for a pony,
but that never happened. In high school, all I wished for was that God
would make certain boys “like” me. As I have pursued my music career,
I have come to realize that God does everything in His own time. He
knows what’s best for me. He places people and events in our lives and
that is exactly what He has done for me. At this point in my journey,
I am letting God lead the way, using me and my music in the direction
that He wants to take me.”
